Mental Health Week 2022

05/05/2022

May 2 to 8 is Mental Health Week! With this year's theme being "Empathy," we encourage everyone to reach out and help people who are facing difficulties. Take away any negativity and criticism, and use your heart to listen and understand what others have to say. Learn to accept one another and see the world as others do.

To spread awareness on mental health, Fairchild Television and Talentvision have produced a series of special features in "Urban Life", "What's On" "Expert Hour" and "Magazine 26". In addition, former Miss Chinese Vancouver Winner and Miss Hong Kong Kayi Cheung will share her experience and knowledge from the perspective of a Certified Positive Discipline Instructor, educating us how to become an open-minded and patient listener.

Russia began to invade neighbouring Ukraine on February 24. A massive fleet of Russian armoured vehicles advanced towards Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. Confronting Ukraine's tenacious resistance, President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, even issued a threat of nuclear weapons. The Ukrainian authorities stated that the war had caused thousands of civilian casualties. The United Nations Refugee Agency reported that over a million people had fled Ukraine, and this number is projected to reach 4 million. Aside from Ukraine and Russia, Canada has the largest number of residents of Ukrainian descent. To stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, Canada has declared several sanctions against Russia and has provided weapons, economic, and humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian authorities. Canada's Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship department has announced that it will take additional steps to process applications from Ukraine urgently.

Miss Chinese Vancouver Cindy Wu creates the artwork “Coexistence” for LunarFest

02/02/2022

This year, the LunarFest welcomes the Year of the Tiger with the theme of “Together, Strong.” It uses art to convey the concept of togetherness and strength as humans learn to coexist with mother nature.

A graduate from the Parsons School of Design and Royal College of Art, Miss Chinese Vancouver 2021 Cindy Wu was inspired by the festival’s theme and turned abstract brushstrokes into a symbolic art piece called “Coexistence” to signify unity as we hold hands with Mother Earth for a green future.

Yasmine Ross, the 1st runner-up of the Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant 2021, is also an artist involved in acting and filmmaking. She is fluent in English, French, and Mandarin and strives to promote harmony among people from different cultures to make the world a less lonely place. Yasmine delivers a greeting in Canada’s official languages and Chinese to wish everyone a healthy and prosperous Lunar New Year.

From now on until February 21st, visit https://lunarfestvancouver.ca/mcvs-messages to appreciate Cindy’s artwork and Yasmine’s celebration video as they fully manifest the power of multiculturalism in Vancouver.
