To mark the occasion, Fairchild TV hosted the national Press Conference, broadcast live on YouTube, giving audiences across the country the chance to experience Kat’s charisma firsthand.
Kat’s musical journey began in high school when he entered a campus singing contest. Teaching himself guitar and forming a band with friends, he built valuable stage experience through numerous performances. At 21, he made his official debut after winning 1st Runner-up in a large-scale singing competition, releasing solo works, his 1st EP, and even hosting music programs. Following the global financial crisis, Kat briefly switched careers to work as a journalist, but his passion for music never waned. In 2017, as a member of the band sp’ACE, he released a second EP and held a concert. In 2022, with a “last chance” determination, Kat joined “Midlife Sing & Shine!” and emerged as the Champion, proving that dreams never fade with time. Returning to the music scene, he launched his third album “Third Life”, which tells the story of his years of perseverance. His latest single, “The Moment the Phone Turns Off”, was inspired by a trip to Saipan with his family, where disconnecting from work and technology allowed him to embrace the beauty of living in the moment. Deeply grateful for the opportunity to perform in Canada, Kat expressed his excitement to meet overseas fans and shared that after the tour, he looked forward to celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival with his wife and friends.
At the press conference, he was moved by surprise welcome videos prepared by colleagues from Calgary and Toronto. Cherished Moments: Dr. Fung Reunites with Miss Lok
06/17/2025
Ms. Virginia Lok, Assistant General Manager (Talent Management and Development) of TVB, recently visited Vancouver and Toronto on a mission to discover new talent. In addition to conducting interviews for the Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2025 overseas contestants, Ms. Lok also met with aspiring young individuals interested in pursuing a career in entertainment, in search of the next rising star.
Ms. Lok has always had a special appreciation for young talents raised in Canada. Over the years, she has personally discovered several promising artists who returned to Hong Kong to further their careers — including Fairchild Radio DJ Leonard Cheng, “Project Boyz Power” competition winner Karl Ting, and many Miss Chinese Vancouver and Toronto contestants. Many of them have since become key figures in TVB’s lineup of rising stars. Her return to Canada this time is expected to bring even more fresh energy to Hong Kong’s entertainment industry.
Aside from interviews with Fairchild Television and Fairchild Radio, Ms. Lok also made time to catch up with Dr. Thomas Fung, Chairman of Fairchild Group, a long-time friend with whom she shares a strong bond. The evening kicked off with hosts Mary Lo, Mandy Chan, and Fion Yung, who set the stage for an exhilarating show. As the four singers made their grand entrance, they greeted fans and handed out gifts, instantly igniting the crowd’s excitement.
Miranda Li, a vocal powerhouse who has touched countless hearts through television, finally had the opportunity to showcase her voice live in front of her Canadian fans. She performed her signature song “Just Between Dreams and Reality” as well as her latest release “One More Day to Forget You”, both of which deeply moved the audience. As a seasoned vocal coach, she also displayed her versatility by delivering a lively rendition of the Latin pop classic “La Isla Bonita”, proving her exceptional vocal range and musical style.
Next up was the immensely popular “Little Dragon Girl” Stacey Long, who entered the stage to thunderous cheers. Known for her stunning renditions of Teresa Teng’s classics, she performed heartfelt versions of “Goodbye My Love” and “Fragrance in the Night”, mesmerizing the audience with her delicate and emotional delivery. She further thrilled fans by singing Anita Mui’s legendary hit “Dream Partner”, bringing everyone back to the golden era of Cantopop. As a special treat, she gave an encore performance of her newly released song “You’re the One I Want to Love Most”, marking its first-ever live performance in Vancouver.
Ryan Lau, affectionately known as “Captain Wai Wong” among fans, brought his signature energy and charisma to the stage. He performed “Embracing Tears”, a song that won him recognition during “Midlife, Sing & Shine!” along with two nostalgic classics—“2001: A Space Odyssey” and “Where There’s Only You and Me”. Ever the entertainer, he encouraged the audience to clap and sing along, creating a lively and interactive atmosphere. He then joined with FC Tam for a stunning duet of “Caught in Between”, beautifully capturing the emotional struggle between friendship and love, leaving the audience in awe.
Closing the performance part was FC Tam, a reserved yet incredibly powerful performer. The moment he stepped on stage, fans enthusiastically waved their light sticks and cheered in support. He chose to sing “Choices”, a song that had earned him high praise during “Midlife, Sing & Shine!” delivering an inspiring message about chasing dreams fearlessly. He also performed the heartfelt ballads “Slowly” and “Grateful”, expressing his deep appreciation for his wife and loyal fans that have supported him unconditionally. His sincere words and emotional delivery left many in the audience teary-eyed.
The night wasn’t just about music—fans also had the chance to interact with their idols through fun games! Lucky audience members were invited on stage to team up with the singers for two exciting challenges. The first game, “Teamwork Bounce Challenge”, tested the coordination between singers and fans as they raced to pick out ping-pong balls from a game box within a time limit. The competition was fierce, and after an intense showdown, Ryan Lau’s team emerged victorious. The second game, “Tempo Jump”, challenged participants to make quick decisions based on given questions, jumping to the correct answer spot as fast as possible. It was a tight match, but in the end, Ryan’s team won by just one point. All teams were rewarded with fantastic prizes, making for a thrilling and laughter-filled experience.

The audience soaked in the festive New Year atmosphere, explored the vibrant flower market, and participated in the city’s liveliest New Year’s Eve countdown party to usher in the Year of the Snake. The event began with an electrifying lion dance performance, with the booming sound of gongs and drums setting an energetic tone for the festivities. Hosts Mary Lo, Mandy Chan and Fion Yung extended their heartfelt Chinese New Year greetings and kicked off a series of exciting programs.
The celebration started with a spirited and vibrant traditional Chinese ethnic dance performed by a group of talented children from Cindy Yang Dance Academy of Canada, dazzling the audience with their extraordinary performance. Following that, during the “TruNatural Chinese New Year Cooking Segment” Chef Alex took the stage to demonstrate a contemporary Chinese New Year dish, “Pan seared Bacon Wrap Pork Tenderloin served on Warm Bacon Potato Salad & Tru Natural Pork Jus”. Assisting him was Shania Fu, Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant 2024 Champion, who eagerly learned tips and tricks from the chef while embracing the festive spirit of abundance and prosperity. Feng Shui master Anna provided in-depth insights into the annual fortunes of the 12 zodiac signs, guiding the audience on how to bring good luck and ward off misfortune. The master also presented lucky Feng Shui items to some fortunate attendees to ensure blessings and prosperity for the New Year. Six Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant 2024 finalists, including Champion Shania Fu, 1st Runner-up Marina Yu, 2nd Runner-up Olivia Zhou, Jennifer Huang, Claudia Lam and Jasper Tiffany Chan, delivered an elegant and captivating Chinese New Year dance, showcasing their grace and charm.
During the grand prize giveaway segment, several lucky participants were selected to compete in thrilling games with exquisite prizes at stake. In the first game by Telus “Lucky Red Envelope Count”, selected audiences carefully observed animations and tallied the number of colored red envelopes, with the closest guess winning the prize. The second game by Scotiabank featured a memory challenge where Miss Chinese Vancouver Shania Fu, Marina Yu, and Olivia Zhou, teamed up with audience members to compete. They took turns flipping cards and matching pairs within a time limit. The beauty queens impressed the crowd with their intelligence and teamwork, earning cheers and applause from the audience. The event reached a climax with the grand finale lucky draw, where everyone went home with delightful prizes. Hosts Fion and Jennifer transformed into the “Fortune Twins”, mingling with the crowd at the flower market and handing out red envelopes and small gifts, spreading joy and blessings to all.
Finally, the much-anticipated moment arrived as the hosts, performers, leaders and members of three levels of government led the crowd in a countdown of “3, 2, 1” to welcome the Year of the Snake. The God of Wealth appeared to distribute red envelopes, symbolizing good fortune and prosperity. Fairchild Television extends its warmest wishes to everyone. May the Snake bring auspicious energy and blessings, and may your home is filled with prosperity and happiness in the New Year!
