British Columbians have once again been confronted by an extreme weather emergency on a massive scale. A severe storm has resulted in flooding, landslides, mudslides, power outages, and other incidents across the South Coastal and Interior regions of the province. When a devastating emergency happens, Canadians are there for each other.

Cindy Wu Crowned Miss Chinese Vancouver 2021

12/13/2021

Unanimously praised by the panel of judges, the graceful and elegant Cindy Wu was crowned Miss Chinese Vancouver 2021. The art and design instructor with a double degree from the prestigious Parsons School of Design and a master's degree from the Royal College of Art has represented Canada in various international painting competitions. She once auctioned her work to fund water development and construction in areas of Africa suffering from extreme poverty, with the ambition to bring unity among people using her artwork. In the two-minute talent performance at the Final, Cindy likened herself to the gentle yet persistent historical character Mulan whom she portrayed with charcoal. Not only were her artistic skills impressive, but the symbolic meaning behind the art was even more vivid.

This year’s adoption of a completely new hybrid format featured physical and online components. Through a series of training and online courses, the girls were blessed with the opportunity to challenge themselves while regaining the feeling of togetherness among one another. Although there were bittersweet moments, tears, and laughter, every minute of their journey documented the transformation and growth of these adventurous girls who dare to dream. The grand finale integrated the essence of Eastern and Western cultures. Be it image styling, stage design, or the artistic presentation of performances, the profound meaning of the theme "Time to Embrace" was manifested throughout the show, allowing you, the audience, to experience the beauty of the world as it is time to emancipate from obstacles and embrace each other once again.

Walking with you in the wind and the rain, Fairchild Media Group fully supports B.C.'s Flood Relief

11/26/2021

Fairchild Media Group's Fairchild Television, Talentvision, and Fairchild Radio AM1470 & FM96.1 is urging everyone to lend a helping hand to the flood victims of British Columbia so that they can safely overcome adversity and rebuild their homes as soon as possible.

As a result of a sudden "atmospheric river" effect, the continuous rainfall in southern British Columbia has caused 24 cities and towns in the province to record more than 100 millimetres of rain since November 13. Hope, the worst-hit area, recorded 252 mm of rain which is 73% of the local average of 344 mm in November. Coquihalla Summit, Agassiz, Chilliwack and Squamish also recorded more than 200 mm of rain. This "500-year-old" extreme rainfall coupled with the forest fires this summer has caused flash floods in various places and rivers to burst levees. Railway and road traffic has been paralyzed by flooding and earth-rock flows. Floods have blocked many cities, and residents were urgently asked to evacuate the premises. The loss of life and property is hard to estimate. The Provincial Government of British Columbia declared a "state of emergency" across the province on November 17. The federal government also dispatched thousands of air forces to assist in supplying supplies, monitoring disaster areas, and air evacuation.

Walking with you in the wind and the rain, Fairchild Media Group fully supports B.C.'s Flood Relief

The British Columbia Government website lists 4 Canadian charities, including the Canadian Red Cross, United Way, Food Bank BC, and The Canadian Salvation Army to provide support to those impacted by the flooding and landslides, which led to mass evacuations and cut off entire communities from the rest of the province. In addition, the BC SPCA will also fully assist families with pets affected by the disaster. You can select your favourite charity and follow the link below to its fundraising page to donate.

Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant finalists put in their best effort on the eventful filming and official photoshoot days!

10/13/2021

Despite the tight schedule, last week was in no doubt a memorable and valuable experience for our MCVP finalists. For two hectic days in a row, the girls filmed the promotional video, took their official photos, did TV interviews and completed a digital self-introduction for the electronic event program book. Posing in multiple sets of trendy and special crossover outfits highlighting this year’s East meets West theme, the girls worked hard to show off their youthfulness and invincibility in front of the camera. Even though the filming began early in the morning, lasting until late evening, the girls maintained their best throughout. As time passed, the pressure eased off, and the girls became more relaxed when they performed the fun Ossan’s Love dance which will be shared on all MCVP platforms shortly. Stay tuned for its release day as the girls reveal the more carefree image of themselves!

09/21/2021

Not only is Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant a self-recognition journey but also a lifetime experience for transformation and growth. This year, various training courses for the finalists are still conducted online. It was an honour to have experts in the aesthetic industry kick-start the first online class by educating the contestants on professional makeup and skin-care techniques. Aside from choosing the appropriate makeup for different occasions, it is essential to understand one’s personality to liberate a fresh and different inner-self. After gaining professional insight, the beauties had a lot to take away for future events and filming occasions.

The details make a significant difference, for instance, drawing a pair of eyebrows suitable for your face shape, choosing a non-marking lip gloss to avoid discoloration due to frequent mask-wearing, the correct way of using eye cream, and many more.
